LEARNING, ENRICHMENT & WELL-BEING
Nurturing learning, enriching lives and fostering well-being
At BISR we focus on three key areas: learning, well-being and enrichment, with equal emphasis placed on all three areas, that we refer to as ‘pillars’. Research shows that students who are happy learn more effectively. Also, there are significant benefits for students who are involved in the wider life of the school, including activities, service, leadership and trips. Some of these benefits include but are not limited to: Improved academic performance; higher self-esteem and self-confidence; development of broader perspectives; improved social skills; development of leadership and wider life-skills.
Learning Pillar
Empowering students to thrive through purposeful, innovative practices
Our vision for the Learning Pillar is to empower students to excel in all they do by fostering their development as lifelong learners, equipping them with transferable skills and knowledge that prepare them for a successful future in an ever-evolving world.
The Learning Pillar drives educational excellence at BISR with a shared vision and actionable practices centered around our unique Learning Primer. This Primer, serving as our success criteria, ensures teachers meet the highest standards by delivering purposeful and impactful learning. Structured into four key areas—Planning for Transfer, the Learning Environment, Pedagogy, and Responsive Teaching—it creates environments where students thrive, provides clear direction for teachers, and offers leadership guidance to uphold best practices.
Enrichment Pillar
Enhancing student experience beyond the classroom
At BISR, we support learning by encouraging our students to participate in our extensive enrichment programme. Enrichment at BISR is made up of four elements; Activities, House, Journeys and Service. These elements enhance classroom based learning and provide a holistic education for our students. It allows them to develop skills, interests and talents outside the formal learning environment.
The programme provides a wide variety of activities, inter-house competitions, service learning experiences, and the opportunity to go on amazing journeys all over the world. They are all designed specifically to help students develop our REACH values, enjoy intercultural learning and gain valuable life skills for their future. Research shows that involvement in enrichment activities supports stronger academic performance and enhanced student well-being. We are very proud of the varied enrichment programme we offer and expect all students to find their passion and be fully involved in this area of our school.
Well-being Pillar
Committed to supporting our students in every possible way
We place the utmost importance on fostering the well-being of every child in our care. We understand that a positive and supportive environment is key to helping children thrive, both academically and personally. Our comprehensive approach to student well-being is designed to equip children with the tools they need to recognise, manage, and express their emotions, build resilience, and lead fulfilling lives.
To help children understand and manage their emotions, we use the Zones of Regulation framework. This evidence-based approach teaches students to recognise their feelings, understand the triggers behind them, and develop strategies for self-regulation. By helping students identify whether they are in the green, blue, yellow, or red zone, we empower them to take control of their emotional responses and make positive choices.

We believe that a supportive and positive learning environment is essential for children to flourish. By prioritising kindness, respect, and inclusivity in all that we do, we create a space where children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. By enhancing their emotional, social, and physical wellbeing, we empower all students to grow into confident, compassionate, and capable individuals. |
