Ready, Set, Shine: Starting Your Child’s Journey at BISR
Claire Leask
Headteacher, BISR Al Sharq
The backpacks are packed, water bottles at the ready, new uniform, new shoes and hat by the door and a brand-new adventure is about to begin! To all the parents sending your little ones off to school for the very first time: it is completely normal to feel a little nervous about the next step.
At BISR Al Sharq, one of our biggest goals is helping your child feel secure, happy, and confident as they take these first big steps towards independence. We are there for each unique child.
We believe in the power of three teachers: You, the parents, are your child’s first teacher. We, the educators, are their second. And our beautifully designed learning environment, both indoors and outdoors acts as the third teacher, intentionally crafted to spark curiosity, wonder, and independent discovery. Together, we form the perfect team to support your child!
To help them prepare for this wonderful new adventure, here’s a quick checklist:
- Share stories about the exciting things they’ll do, like playing with new toys, making friends, and exploring our garden. Keep all talk about school positive and enthusiastic!
- Practice the routine: Start adjusting bedtime and wake-up schedules the week before school so the first morning doesn't feel like a rush.
- Build independent skills: Practice opening and closing snack boxes, using the toilet independently, and taking off and putting on shoes at home. It builds so much confidence when they can do it themselves.
- Keep goodbyes short, practice a special ‘secret handshake’. A confident “I love you, and I'll see you after lunch!” gives them the security they need to step into the classroom.
We promise to fill their days with laughter, safety, and endless care. Welcome to the BISR family, we are so ready to watch them shine!
