Al Waha

At BISR we remain committed to the ongoing development and update of our campus facilities. We are delighted to share with you our new campus development which is due to open in the Autumn term 2024.

Our Al Waha Campus will be the new home to our current Al Hamra student population aged 3 to 18, where we will continue to build upon the excellent foundations laid at our Al Hamra campus. Our youngest students follow the English Early Years Foundation Stage programme with students in Years 1 to 9 following the English National Curriculum, which is adapted and enriched to reflect our local and international context. Students in Years 10 and 11 follow a two-year programme of General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) subjects and our Year 12 and 13 students complete Advanced Level (A Level) studies. Students achieve well above average examination outcomes and go on to study at prestigious Universities and Colleges around the world.

Al Waha campus is a purpose-built campus of 30,000 sq metres within a 50, 000 sq metre site. Learning spaces are large and well designed, with a range of exciting features to support our learning, wellbeing, and enrichment programmes. There are separate Primary and Senior sections within a four-storey high building with discrete specialist facilities for the STEAM element of our curriculum. Additionally, sixth form students have their own study area. Shared facilities include a school auditorium, state of the art sports facilities, swimming pool, drama and music rooms and a large, well-stocked library.

The school will make use of a range of new technology systems to support learning and ensure the safety of our BISR community. There are dedicated ICT suites as well as a Wi-Fi enabled campus for our one-to-one iPad programme for Years 2-6 and a bring your own device programme for Senior School students.
The campus has been designed with flexible spaces to support changing learning needs over time whilst creating an atmosphere conducive to learning.

February 2023

Our groundbreaking ceremony on 2nd February 2023 was a truly remarkable day in the 44 year history of BISR. The second time in our history where we have broken ground on a new purpose built site.

After over a decade in the making and an unimaginable amount of planning, we were honoured to welcome representatives from the Ministry of Education, numerous embassies, our board of governors, staff, students and Astra construction to our ground breaking ceremony this week.

As a not-for- profit international school we are proud to be playing a small part in supporting the ambitious 2030 vision of Saudi Arabia by providing a top tier education for children of expatriate workers.

We thank everyone who have allowed us to reach this milestone and invite you all to join us on what we are sure will be a remarkable journey.

Today we embarked on the next step of our exciting journey as the concrete was poured in the foundations of our new campus. This groundbreaking project represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing exceptional education in the heart of Riyadh. The design and planning of the new campus reflect a vision of creating a world-class learning environment that fosters intellectual growth, cultural diversity, and a sense of community. The structure has been pre cast and so the build will now move very quickly, on target for our September 2024 opening. The new site will nearly double our capacity, vastly improving classroom sizes and the range and array of facilities.

Feb 2024

We are really excited to share with you pictures from the Al Waha construction site. Building work is continuing at a fast pace with the Primary School side of the campus moving up into the top floor. The basement level and ground floor level work is moving very quickly with mechanical and electrical work in the latter stage of completion. Interior walls are now going up on those levels too.

The footings are now in place for the air-inflated dome, which will cover the full sized astroturf facility. The dome is currently being manufactured and will be brought onto site in the next few weeks. Additionally, work is progressing quickly with the erection of the new indoor sports facility.

Pictures are out of date very quickly due to the daily changes on site. In addition to the work taking place on the construction, our interior design team are finalising colours and ensuring that all furniture is procured or manufactured, ready for installation in June / July.
